The unusual

This weekend, my daughter and I invented a new game. It's called - The unusual.
The objective is to find anything unusual in our view.
Anything that is out of place, that doesn't make sense, an anomaly, that surprises us.
Very soon, we were finding buildings with grass on top.
Cars painted in matt green.
Windows that are sealed with reflective materials.
Birds that have looooooong tails
A lot of trees are either shorter, wider, or have leaves of a peculiar color.
I was so surprised that even after playing this game for hours, she was not bored.
Not even once have I had to give her my phone to watch something.
I realised that as children, we used to value surprises more than anything else.
She asked me, "Papa, why are we watching trees?"
I don't remember what I replied, but I remember I could not explain it properly.
But I know she understood the point instinctively.
We are surrounded by so much beauty, novelty, and affection.
If only we leave behind what we know gives us pleasure and security.
